Waterford artist, Christine O'Brien Shanahan, has been creating art works since graduating from art college in 1985, has a primary degree in Fine Art, and completed a MA in Arts and Heritage Management in 2009. With paintings and photographs in private collections locally and abroad, landscape continues to be an integral element in her work, with themes of place and time recurring.

Chris worked as an teacher both privately and in secondary schools until the mid 1990s, including teaching pottery and running a photography club. In late 1980s she trained as an therapist and worked in a number of government sponsored community and co-operative development programmes, facilitating early school-leaver programmes and art workshops in psychiatric day-care centres.

With her partner, Sound artist miXile, she started the web site design company concept in 1992. They continue to support the arts in Waterford including art, music, film, theatre and comedy festivals.

She is a member of the Waterford Arts Forum steering committee. During the campaign to highlight the international signifigance of the Viking and earlier Irish settlement at Woodstown in 2005 was on the Save Viking Waterford Action Group (SVWAG) committee.

As National Vice President of Network Ireland, the Organisation for Women in Business, the Professionals and the Arts, Chris co-hosted a Joint Meeting of the Finnish Delegation from South West Finland, Aisapari and Members of Network Waterford in 2004.
